Roasters

Roasting Chickens are a great alternative to Turkey for your Christmas dinner. Perfect with lashings of proper bread sauce, home-made gravy and a full complement of roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Our chicks arrive on the farm at just one day old. Like our White Barn Turkeys, they are reared in spacious, open farm buildings with natural light and ventilation, with a variety of home comforts including toys for them to peck at and play with, and straw bales for them to perch. By growing our chickens more slowly than standard chickens, and to a greater age, we are able to produce a more mature, flavoursome bird which is worthy of its place on your Christmas table.

Cooking tips

Remove the Roasting Chicken from the fridge and allow it to come up to room temperature.Preheat oven to 190°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4. Place the Chicken in a roasting tin, then brush it with melted butter and season generously with pepper and salt.
Put it in the oven and roast for 1 hour 15 minutes, using its juices to baste it regularly as it cooks. At the end of the cooking time, check the Chicken is ready by inserting a clean skewer into it; if the juices run clear, it is properly cooked. Remove the cooked Chicken from the oven and let it rest in a warm place, (covered with foil), for 15 minutes before carving.
